Her Story
For the past decade, Nadya Okamoto has been working to change the culture around menstruation. At just 16 years old, she founded the nonprofit PERIOD.—a global organization advocating for access to menstrual products, policy change, and education to break the stigma surrounding periods.
In 2018, she published Period Power: A Manifesto for the Menstrual Movement, a groundbreaking book that sheds light on menstruation, the stigma attached to it, and how we can empower women and people who menstruate.
Her Impact
Founded PERIOD., which has mobilized thousands of activists and distributed millions of menstrual products to those in need
Advocated for policy change to eliminate the “tampon tax” and make period products more accessible
Co-founded August, a sustainable, inclusive period care brand sold at Target, Amazon, and DoorDash, redefining the conversation around menstrual health
Through her activism, writing, and business ventures, Nadya Okamoto continues to lead a global movement to end period poverty and stigma.
